Junction PA 274 and 850, 2.1 miles W of Loysville. Erected April 28, 1947.
The Robinson family built Fort Robinson in 1755. It was a log fort surrounded by stockade built as a place of refuge from Indian attacks for the family and their neighbors. The fort was built on a bluff in Sherman’s Valley. The areas around the fort were filled with oak and maple trees. Water was supplied from a spring located at the bottom of the bluff. Located on the Allegheny Path, the fort was the only means of protection for travelers on their war from Kittatiny to the Tuscarora Mountains. The stockade featured heights five feet above the ground to shoot from.
